Upper Washington Street

Second to the City Center area with respect to the density of residential and commercial development, as is the case almost everywhere in Middletown, the Upper Washington Street area nevertheless has substantial tracts of open space. These are predominantly forested, and include Veteran’s Park, through which the Coginchaug River runs. This green corridor along the broad, flat Coginchaug River continues through the city and the Salafia property (behind the Johnson Street cemetery) until its convergence with the Mattabesset at the North End Peninsula.
