Stantack Road Corridor

regional mapThis area of Middletown is considered to be one of the more rural areas left within city limits. It is characterized by mixed hardwood and coniferous forests, wetlands, and higher topography highlighted by Higby and Lamentation Mountains. Access to some of the land is by an old dirt road, Stantack Road. There is not much development along this section, as many parcels have been put into permanent conservation easements. Most notable of these parcels is the Wilcox property, which was once used as a golf course, now overgrown and returning to forest. The city’s goals are to maintain and enhance this corridor for conservation and walking trails. There are plans to install a section of the Mattabesset Trail through the Wilcox property with assistance from Connecticut Forest and Parks, thereby connecting this area to the Blue Trail system. The city also plans on creating shorter loop trails along Footit Road and into the Wilcox property. Footit Road serves to connect Stantack Road to Atkins Road, which parallels the Stantack Road corridor.
